Guatemala. On November 21, the Guatemalan government, NGO´s, women's organizations and civil society announced at a Press conference the activities planned to celebrate the International day to eliminate violence against women, November 25 until December 10, the date to commemorate 60 years of the International Day of Human Rights.
Under the slogan "All rights for all women" a 16 day campaign of activism for the Eradication of Violence Against Women will be held.
In those 16 days academic activities will be held throughout the country to commemorate the International Day of Women Human Rights Defenders, the Struggle against AIDS, the Abolition of Slavery, Disabled Persons and Volunteers.
In Guatemala this activity will be carried out for the third consecutive year, with the support of the Government of Guatemala. It has been celebrated worldwide for the last 18 years. On this occasion three main themes will be addressed: Fight for the elimination of femicide, the fight against the silent deaths of women caused by deliveries and reproductive events and the fight for the elimination of human trafficking.
"We are striving to achieve that the elimination of violence against women will become part of the highest priorities of all governments in the world, but especially in a multi-ethnic country like Guatemala" explained the Representative of the UN System in Guatemala, Nadine Gasman.
In Guatemala, these activities will be held in the Capital City, in Chiquimula, Alta Verapaz, Izabal, Escuintla, Huehuetenango, Quiche, Sacatepquez, San Marcos, Solola, Santa Rosa and Zacapa .
